Presumptive Vibrio species and Vibrio parahaemolyticus in Shellfish

     
Description Detection of presumptive Vibrio species after sample enrichment.  Analysis of presumptive Vibrio species by PCR to detect the presence of V. parahaemolyticus.

Sample type End product e.g. live shellfish, shucked/ prepared shellfish, other food product.
Sample requirements Minimum sample weight is 25 grams; however the sample should be representative of the batch. Samples must be chilled but not in direct contact with ice.
Testing Schedule Analysis carried out Monday/Tuesday/ Wednesday.  Samples should be at the lab by 3pm on Wednesday.  Not more than 48 hours must elapse between sampling and arrival at the lab.
Turnaround Presence/absence of presumptive Vibrio species available after 72 hours.  PCR analysis requires a further 24 hours.
